Sightron S1 3x-9x 40mm Rifle Scope

About.com Rating five out of Five

The Bottom Line

This scope surprised me. I needed a scope in a hurry and on a budget, so I decided to give Sightron a shot, save $100 vs. the scopes I had been buying, and see whether their scopes are worth a hoot. Well, I reckon the answer is yes, especially considering that during some comparison tests it showed itself to be brighter than a bunch of my other, more expensive, scopes. It's served me well during several deer hunting seasons now, and I expect to keep using it for a long time to come.

  • Brighter than some more expensive scopes I own.

  • Imported (made in Japan).

Guide Review - Sightron S1 3x-9x 40mm Rifle Scope

The Sightron S1 scope surprised me. I was in a pinch and needed a scope, and my budget was low. I had heard good things about Sightron, so I gave them a try, at almost $100 less than other scopes I'd been using. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality, and found it to be even brighter than some of my more expensive scopes. I hunted with it almost exclusively for the following several deer hunting seasons, and it has served me well.

Adjustments are easy - just unscrew the covers and turn the adjusters by hand, no coin or screwdriver required. Adjustments are in 1/4-minute clicks, which is usually standard, though not on some manufacturers' newer, cheaper, lines (which still cost more than the Sightron).

I compared the Sightron to a number of other scopes, including Redfield, Nikon, Burris, and Leupold, at dusk one evening. I set all scopes at 6x and scoped a dark patch of brush with them all, switching back and forth for comparison. The Sightron beat most for brightness and clarity, and was the equal of those it didn't beat.

During the first hunting season I used it, I made three good shots on game with the Savage 308 rifle I mounted the scope on. Each shot was true and all game was recovered, including a whitetail shot through the heart at 137 yards. The rifle and scope accompanied me to the woods in all kinds of weather - cold, hot, dry, rainy - and it didn't cause me any problems.

I have used it for several seasons now and taken a variety of game with it, and I can't ask for better service than this scope has given me. I'll continue to hunt with my Sightron, with confidence.
